Tesla Model X: Cooling System - Partial Refill and Bleed

Tesla Model X 2015-2024 Service Manual / Thermal Management / Cooling System - Partial Refill and Bleed

Caution: Use the specified coolant only. In this manual, refer to General Information > Capacities, Fluids, and Lubricants > Fluids. Caution: Ensure that the vehicle is not charging while performing this procedure.

  1. Open the hood.
  2. Connect a laptop with Toolbox to the vehicle. Tip: The HEPA filter can be removed while waiting for Toolbox to open.
  3. Open Panels > Thermal > Fluid Drain and Fill.
  4. In the "Fluid Drain and Refill" panel, set the "Routine" to Start Fluid Drain/Fill then click the Start/Play button.
  5. Open Panels > Thermal > Thermal System Signals.
  6. In the "Thermal Systems Signals" panel, ensure that the system is in "Series Mode". Note: Do not continue this procedure until the vehicle is in "Series Mode".
  7. Remove the HEPA filter housing (refer to procedure).
  8. Remove the coolant reservoir cap.
  9. Add coolant to the "MAX" line.
  10. In the "Fluid Drain and Refill" panel, set the "Routine" to Stop Fluid Drain/Fill then click the Start/Play button.
  11. Open Panels > Thermal > Coolant Air Purge. Click the Start/Play button.
  12. While the coolant air purge procedure is running, add coolant as needed so that the reservoir remains filled at the "MAX" line. Note: The coolant air purge procedure takes approximately 15 minutes.
  13. Reinstall all components that were removed for access.
  14. Disconnect Toolbox from the vehicle.
