Tesla Model X: 3 Way Coolant Valve - Radiator Bypass (Remove and Replace)

Removal

  1. Remove the cooling fan module (refer to procedure).
  2. Remove the battery cage (refer to procedure).
  3. Remove the bolts (x4) that secure the 3-way and 4-way valves to the plastic support beam (torque 5 Nm).

     3 Way Coolant Valve - Radiator Bypass (Remove and Replace)

  4. Release the clips (x2) that secure the coolant hose to the plastic support beam.

  5. Remove the bolts (x2) that secure the plastic support beam to the front frame rails (torque 6.5 Nm).

  6. Remove the plastic support beam from the vehicle.
  7. Disconnect the electrical connector from the 3-way valve.

  8. Place a container beneath the 3-way valve to catch any spilled coolant.
  9. Clamp the radiator inlet coolant hose.

  10. Release the locking rings (x3) that secure the coolant hoses to the 3-way valve. Release the coolant hoses from the nipples on the 3-way valve.

  11. Remove the 3-way valve from the vehicle.
Installation

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:

  1. Recharge the refrigerant.
  2. Refill and bleed the cooling system (refer to procedure).
