Tesla Model X: Air Spring Module - Front - LH (Remove and Replace)

Removal

  1. Place the vehicle on a lift, but do not raise the vehicle at this time.
  2. Activate Jack Mode on the touchscreen (refer to procedure).
  3. Remove the HEPA filter housing (refer to procedure).
  4. Connect a laptop with Toolbox to the vehicle.
  5. Use Toolbox to depressurize the front LH air spring module.
  6. Disconnect 12V power (refer to procedure).
  7. Release the fir tree clips that secure the 12V harness to the rear of the fusebox bracket.

  8. Release the screws that secure the fusebox bracket to the body (torque 7 Nm).

  9. Gently pull the fusebox forward to gain access to the air spring tower.
  10. Release the 3 nuts that secure the LH air spring to the body (torque 39 Nm).

  11. Release the blue air suspension line on the top of the air spring tower (torque 2 Nm).
  12. Loosen the front LH lug nuts.
  13. Raise the vehicle.
  14. Remove the LH front wheel.
  15. Remove the bolt that secures the bottom of the air spring module to the lower control arm (torque 140 Nm).

  16. Remove the bolt that secures the upper control arm ball joint to the knuckle (torque 60 Nm).

  17. Remove the bolt that secures the brake line bracket to the steering knuckle (torque 7 Nm).

  18. Release the wheel speed sensor harness from the bracket on the control arm.

  19. Pull the steering knuckle away from the vehicle. Caution: Do not allow the air spring to fall out of the vehicle.
  20. Carefully remove the air spring from the vehicle.

Note: Replace LH and RH front air spring modules if the vehicle has over 80,500 kilometers (50,000 miles).

Installation

Installation procedure is the reverse of removal, except for the following:

  1. Install the air spring into the vehicle.
  2. Secure the bolts for the control arms and the steering knuckle.
  3. Position a floor jack at the base of the control arm. Lift the LH corner of the suspension so that the strut studs are visible through the tower holes, then install the nuts onto the studs.
  4. Resecure the wheel speed sensor harness to the bracket.
  5. Resecure the brake line to the knuckle.
  6. Reinstall all components that were removed for access.
  7. Use Toolbox to repressurize the LH air spring.
  8. Transfer the vehicle to a 4-post lift.
  9. Torque all suspension components while the vehicle is at ride height.
